Our Roots
The Knob Creek Vineyards and Historical Area is located in the heart of Johnson City on acreage that has been owned by the Sherfey family since 1885. The site is a functioning farm and vineyard that has been in continual operation for over 200 years earning Knob Creek the designation of being a Century Farm by the state of Tennessee.
In addition to the vineyards and farm at Knob Creek there is a two story museum on site, as well as several historical structures including a log cabin, tobacco farm, weaver’s cottage, and historic dairy cellar. Some of the buildings, such as the Duncan Cabin, have been well preserved on the site and are available for tours. Other buildings, such as the tobacco barn, will serve as the location of future projects that seek to preserve the history of the area while repurposing these historical structures for modern events.
Our Fruits
Knob Creek is a fully functioning farm and vineyard that has been in continual operation for over 200 years, earning it the distinction of being designated a Century Farm by the state of Tennessee. The site has become an oasis in the middle of Johnson City. This sanctuary was created through the careful custodianship of the land by the Sherfey family and their descendants. It is operated with the understanding that the vineyard and orchards help to provide a personal connection to the land, and by extension remind the people of their own history and heritage. The newest generations continue this family tradition in the hopes that the experiences people have at Knob Creek with continue to foster a sense of fellowship and an enjoyment of life, history, and heritage.
Our Branches
Knob Creek Vineyards is deeply committed to continuing the family tradition of community engagement and sustainable development. Our roots run deep here, and have allowed us to develop many opportunities to share with others in our community. As we have grown so has our commitment to supporting others.
In that vein, we want to give a shout out to the agencies that have supported us and groups to which we belong. As a winery we believe your appreciation will be enhanced by a deeper understanding of wines styles and we want to share some other winery experiences with you. We also belong to several historical societies and encourage you to visit them as well, fully experiencing the beauty of East Tennessee.
